Unifying The City:
-
MAKING THE MAPS: In the 2021 state redistricting process, I worked intensively to protect the city from being unnecessarily divided. My direct advocacy and mapping work with the state commission led to a fair map that keeps our city together as a recognized community of interest.
- Arvada, AdamsCo has historically been separated from the city entirely, represented by voices based as far away as Denver and Commerce City. Not anymore. Arvada, AdamsCo is now united into the same state and federal districts as the rest of our great city.
- The first proposed map drafted by the Commission would have diluted our voice at the State Capitol, carving our city up among four State House districts. I was the first to notice this, and I testified passionately at Commission hearings about how this would hurt Arvada residents by diluting our ability to elect our chosen representatives. I later worked with the Commission to create a more inclusive map that represents our city. Arvada was able to keep both of its existing State Representatives as a result.
